Winter Market Closed for the Season

Rio Grande Winter Market Closed for the Season

Due in part to the coronavirus, and in part to last week's earthquake, there will be no more Winter Markets for the rest of this season. The Rio Grande Depot has been deemed uninhabitable due to the damage in the building. Also, with the rapidly emerging situation with Covid 19, we don't want to risk your safety, the safety of our vendors, or our staff. So, we're going to call it for this season. We are just as sad about this as you, but we think it’s the right decision.

That being said, we want to make sure you support the vendors you love and get the products you need. Many of our vendors are doing deliveries, have set up online ordering and pick-up points, and more. We will continue to share these innovative efforts on social media, in our newsletter, and on our website. We have a page at our website https://www.slcfarmersmarket.org/programs-events/latest-news/item/985-covid-19-response-rio-grande-winter-market where these efforts are listed, and we want to make sure we offer our patrons and our vendors the opportunity to keep economic activity going. Please email us if you have questions or ideas to share.

The more we can do NOW to stop the spread of the virus, the sooner we'll be able to see what the 2020 season of the Downtown Farmers Market will bring. We are still planning and thinking this through, and trying to come up with a plan that will still allow us to have a market, and to keep patrons, vendors, and staff safe. We will know more in the coming weeks as to what we will need to do, with guidance from state leaders and health department directives. We will communicate as much as we can as soon as we know it.

If you haven't had a chance yet, please read the Utah Leads Together plan which can be found here https://coronavirus.utah.gov/the-utah-leads-together-plan/.
The Utah Leads Together economic response plan recognizes the value of facing uncertainty with a dynamic, data-informed, and unified plan. It gives structure and order, to what can otherwise be an unclear and difficult reality.

We will do everything in our power to make markets happen and support our vendors for the benefit of our whole food community. If you have ideas, questions, or suggestions, please feel free to email us.

Sincerely,

Alison Einerson (UFCU Executive Director)
Nichole Mathews (Market Manager)
Erin Carlisle (Arts and Crafts Market Manager)
Carly Gillespie (Program and Development Manager)
