DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES VENDORS FOR DECEMBER “POP-UP” WINTER FARMERS MARKET

Nearly 40 vendors offering locally sourced food at Gallivan Center December 15th.

Salt Lake City (December 11, 2012) – The Downtown Alliance’s second “Pop-Up” Winter FarmersMarkets will be held on December 15th at Gallivan Center, 50 E. 200 S. These one-day events, focusing on local food, are held monthly (November – April) at different downtown locations. A pop-up concept offers only dates, times and themes in advance, location and vendor lists are announced just prior. A Winter Market encourages local producers to increase food production in the winter months by providing a direct marketing outlet for sales.

This indoor market will will utilize a former retail space near the ice rink, as well as a heated 20 x 60 tent, located near the Holiday Market currently ongoing at Gallivan Center. A festive atmosphere is planned that includes fire pits, hot chocolate and cider, food trucks, plus two-for-one ice-skating passes for market-goers who brings a donation of goods or cash for local non-profit charity Candy Cane Corner. CCC is a non-profit holiday store that provides a dignified and empowering opportunity for low-income families and individuals who are participating in programs at the YWCA of Salt Lake, The Road Home, and Volunteers of America, Utah to select new holiday gifts for their families.

“Holding the market at Gallivan Center is a logical fit. Gallivan is the nucleus of downtown holiday festivities such as ice skating and the Holiday Market which features local art and craft vendors,” said Alison Einerson, Winter Market Manager. “The idea of using existing yet unoccupied retail space to benefit the community as venue for the market is what pop-up markets are all about.”

The Downtown Alliance’s strategy is to use the Pop-Up winter markets to build awareness for a year-round market. The objective is to expand to weekly winter markets by next year, with the ultimate goal of a daily, year-round Public Market in the future.

Spring dates will be announced, as will individual vendor lists and locations, at slcfarmersmarket.org, facebook.com/slcfarmersmarket and twitter.com/SLCWinterMarket

Upcoming Market Dates & Themes:
