Programs
We are building a stronger local food community with programs that spread the spirit of the Market beyond Pioneer Park. From engaging with our youngest market patrons to making fresh, local food more accessible through SNAP and DUFB, check out how the Downtown Farmers Market is making an impact in our State.
Market Kids Club
Market Kids Club will return for the Summer 2026 season! Visit the Market Kids Club Booth for weekly activities. Kids who participate will receive $5 in Market Kids Bucks to spend on fresh fruits and veggies!
Produce Incentive Programs
The Downtown Farmers Market is proud to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and two produce incentive programs, Double Up Food Bucks and Produce Rx. SNAP and produce incentive transactions are available at both our Saturday and Winter markets at a designated EBT Exchange booth.
The Market’s goal, with the vendors as partners, is to offer opportunities for families who receive food stamp and/or Produce Rx benefits to purchase fresh, healthy food at the Market - it’s a win-win-win, helping local farmers, local families, and local communities.
SNAP
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
SNAP recipients may use their EBT card at the Downtown Farmers Market to purchase wooden tokens, valued at $1 each, which can be used like cash with any Market vendor on eligible food items.
USDA SNAP Program Rules
SNAP tokens CAN be used to buy foods for the household, such as:
Breads (including muffins and pastries), grains and cereals
Fruits and vegetables
Meats, fish, poultry, and dairy products
Food-producing seeds and plants
Packaged foods that are intended to be eaten at home (salsa, spreads, hummus)
SNAP tokens CANNOT be used to buy:
Nonfood and/or craft items
Ready-to-eat hot foods
Hot beverages
Soft drinks (including kombucha)
DUFB
Double Up Food Bucks
The Downtown Farmers Market matches SNAP dollars two-to-one with Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) to purchase locally grown produce. For example, $10 of wooden SNAP token purchased with an EBT card will be matched with another $20 in green DUFB tokens to buy fresh fruits and veggies.
How it Works
1) Bring your SNAP EBT Card to the Downtown Farmers Market and visit the EBT Exchange booth next to Market Information.
2) Decide how much money you would like to spend. Market staff will swipe your EBT card for the requested amount and give you wooden SNAP tokens worth $1 each, then match what you spend with FREE DUFB green tokens – up to $20, every market day.
3) Use your wooden tokens to buy any SNAP-eligible foods at the market, and green tokens to buy fresh produce! Tokens do not expire, so you can use them right away or save them for another day. All Downtown Farmers Market vendors accept these tokens for eligible food items.
MORE INFORMATION
Visit Double Up America. DUFB is a program of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services with support from Utahns Against Hunger.
Produce Rx
The Utah Produce Rx program is a fruit and vegetable prescription program implemented in a healthcare setting. Eligible patients receive up to $300 to spend at participating farmers markets and local retailers. At the Downtown Farmers Market, Produce Rx vouchers may be exchanged for purple Produce Rx tokens at the EBT Exchange booth.
Eat Local
The Challenge
Is this the year you take the Challenge? The Challenge is simple: eat as local as you can. The standard challenge is only eating food that comes from within a 250 mile radius. Not ready for that? Come up with a challenge that works for you! Choose a couple of food groups to get locally and stay true to them. Be creative, challenge yourself, and have fun!
