Volunteer Opportunities

Market Kids Club Support

The Market Kids Club is farmers market-based children program sponsored by Intermountain LDS Hospital that seeks to teach children about fruits and vegetables, local food systems and healthy food preparation through fun activities. Participants engage in the full farmers market experience, trying new foods, having conversations with farmers, and buying local produce. Fun weekly activities ranging from cooking demonstrations to farmers market scavenger hunts provide nutrition, food, agriculture, and exercise education. The Downtown Farmers Market needs your help in setting up, tearing down and interacting with Market Kids Club participants.

Eat Local Ambassador

The Downtown Farmers Market is seeking local food enthusiasts for Eat Local Week 2019. We will offer monthly educational opportunities through our Summer in a Jar series. In addition, during Eat Local Week (September 7 - 14, 2019) we are looking for ELW Ambassadors to help with event management held at various locations through Salt Lake City and beyond.

Art & Craft Market Volunteer

The Summer Art & Craft Market runs adjacent to the Downtown Farmers Market at historic Pioneer Park. We are offering volunteer opportunities to help our staff operate our information booth, assist artist vendors with navigating the policies of the Market and conduct general operations. This Market runs every Saturday from June 9 to October 20. 8-10 hour per week time commitment. Orientation required.

Food Access Volunteer

The Downtown Farmers Market offers the SNAP (food stamp) program as well as Double Up Food Bucks to increase access to local produce and food at the Market. To keep the program running successfully, we depend on volunteer staff to assist patrons by explaining how the program works and helping process transactions for tokens used to make purchases at the Market.

We and our patrons depend on our EBT volunteers to act responsibly and respectfully. The SNAP Manager will schedule shifts, train and manage volunteers. Shifts are available between 8 am and 2 pm.

Marketing Support

We can always use help distributing our Market posters during the months leadiing up to the Market opening for the Summer, Harvest and Winter Markets. If you are interested in picking up a stack of posters and delivering them in your neighborhood, this is the opportunity for you. Are you on Facebook or Instagram? Follow us and help us spread the word via Social Media! @slcfarmersmarket.

Special Event Support

The Market often has featured events such as cooking demonstrations, art workshops, family activities, the Annual Pumkin Festival, cultural performances, canning classes and farm tours. Our staff needs extra help setting up these events in the morning and breaking down in the afternoon. We can always use help at our Market Kick-Off and Closing parties. The Kick-Off party is typically held a week prior to opening day and the Closing party is held in October. Duties include silent auction assistance, guest check-in, venue setup and breakdown. Be sure to specify which event you want to help with on the application.

Waste Wise Station Monitors

Waste Wise Station Monitors will oversee waste stations to ensure that Market customers and vendors properly sort their waste and recycleables. The goal of the program is to divert trash from the landfill using existing city services. Volunteers will educate Salt Lake residents about the existing city recycling infrastructure. At least a two week commitment is preferred.
The Waste Wise Coordinator will schedule shifts, train and manage volunteers. The Saturday Farmers Market runs June 10 through October 21. Two hour shifts are available from 8 am to 3 pm.

Pumpkin Festival Support

The Downtown Farmers Market seeks volunteers to help with the annual Pumpkin Festival on October 20th, the last day of the 2018 Market season. Sign up for a shift to set up, help kids paint, glue, glitter, feather, and decorate pumpkins as we celebrate the bounty of the harvest.

Available shifts:

  • 8 to 11 am: set up and help decorate
  • 11 am to 1 pm: help decorate
  • 1 pm to 3 pm: help decorate and break down
